Why is Amy Winehouse Famous

Amy Winehouse was a soulful singer that combined a bluesy and jazz feel to her music. Her distinctive sound and look made her a standout in a crowded field of musicians.

Sadly, she fell into addiction and succumbed to alcohol poisoning. In an ironic twist, one of her biggest songs was about “Rehab.”

Amy Winehouse Brief History

Amy Winehouse’s meteoric rise to success ended in tragedy. Her soulful mix of blues and jazz gave her a unique sound.

Her career took off with hits like Rehab and Stronger than Me. In fact, she had such staggering success, that she won awards across the board for her massive selling Back to Black.

Unfortunately, drugs and alcohol led to her undoing. She died in 2011 of alcohol poisoning after a very public battle with her addictions.
Her given name is Amy Jade Winehouse. It’s been said that she started writing music as early as 15 years old.

Her unique look, with widely winged cat-eyes, and a beehive atop her long hair made her easily recognized, and the moment she opened her mouth to sing, you couldn’t mistake her voice of any other.

It was in 2007 that it became truly apparent how bad her addictions had become. She performed a concert and was met with jeers and boos.

There was no hiding her inebriation and left a permanent scar on her public record. It wasn’t the only time. In fact, the entire 17 stop tour was plagued with problems. With her passing, there was no denying her problems had overtaken her life, and sadly her life was snuffed out too early.
